Turning Bulls In and Out of Pasture
Managing bull access to pastures is a key part of controlled breeding. Cattle360 provides dedicated actions for turning bulls into and removing bulls from a pasture.
How to Turn Bulls Into a Pasture
- Navigate to Pastures and open the pasture.
- Click Turn Bulls In (or the equivalent action).
- Select the bull(s) you want to add to the pasture.
- Set the date the bulls are being turned in.
- Confirm the action.
How to Remove Bulls from a Pasture
- Open the pasture that currently has bulls.
- Click Remove Bulls.
- Select the bull(s) to remove.
- Set the date the bulls are being removed.
- Confirm the action.
Why This Matters
- Breeding season control — Turning bulls in marks the start of the breeding season for that pasture. Removing them marks the end.
- Conception window — Knowing when the bull was in the pasture helps narrow the conception window for cows that become pregnant.
- Pasture history — Bull turn-in and removal dates are recorded in the pasture history for future reference.
Bull Turn-In vs. Animal Movement
| Action | Use For |
|---|---|
| Turn Bulls In / Remove Bulls | Managing breeding bulls specifically, with date tracking for breeding season. |
| Move Animals to Pasture | General animal movement for grazing management. |
Tips
- Record the exact dates. Accurate turn-in and removal dates are essential for calculating expected calving dates.
- Create breeding records after bull removal. Once you remove the bull, create breeding records for the exposed cows with the bull as the sire and the turn-in date as the breeding date.
- Track multiple bulls. If using multiple bulls in one pasture, record all of them so breeding records can list multiple possible sires.
