Creating a Pasture

Create a pasture to start tracking a piece of land, its usage, and the animals that graze on it.

How to Create a Pasture

  1. Navigate to the Pastures screen.
  2. Click Add Pasture.
  3. Fill in the pasture details:
    • Name — A descriptive name for the pasture (e.g., “South 40” or “Creek Bottom”).
    • Pasture Type — The type of pasture (e.g., improved, native, hay meadow).
    • Acres — The size of the pasture in acres.
  4. Optionally, draw the pasture boundaries on the map (see Mapping a Pasture).
  5. Click Save.

Automatic County Detection

When you draw pasture boundaries on the map, Cattle360 automatically determines the county from the coordinates using the FCC Census API. The county is stored with the pasture record for reference.

Tips

  • Use meaningful names. Names like “North Creek” or “Hay Meadow East” help you quickly identify pastures.
  • Record acreage accurately. Correct acreage allows you to calculate stocking rates and per-acre maintenance costs.
