Updating Estimated Weights
Estimated weight is a key input for sell signal calculations. Keeping it current ensures your market intelligence recommendations are accurate.
What Is Estimated Weight?
Estimated weight is the approximate current weight of the animals in a group. The market intelligence engine uses this weight to match your animals against auction price data for similar weight ranges.
How to Update Estimated Weight
- Navigate to Market Intelligence for a group.
- Find the Estimated Weight field.
- Enter the current average weight of the animals in the group.
- Save the change.
The sell signal recalculates automatically using the updated weight.
How Estimated Weight Affects Sell Signals
- Price matching — Lighter and heavier animals sell at different price points. An accurate weight ensures the system compares against the correct weight class.
- Revenue estimate — The estimated total value of your group is calculated as estimated weight × market price per pound.
- Timing recommendations — Weight affects whether the recommendation is to sell now or continue gaining weight for a better return.
Tips
- Update after each weighing. When you weigh animals during a working, update the estimated weight for their group.
- Use average daily gain to project. If you weighed animals a month ago, estimate current weight by adding the expected gain per day × days since weighing.
- Be realistic. Overestimating weight leads to inflated value projections. Use conservative estimates for planning.
