Viewing Auction Results
Auction results show detailed pricing data from USDA-reported sales. Use this information to understand current market conditions and compare prices across weight ranges and commodities.
How to View Auction Results
- Navigate to Market Intelligence > Sale Barns.
- Click on a sale barn to open its detail view.
- Select an auction date from the available reports.
What the Results Show
Each auction report is broken down by commodity and weight range:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Commodity | The type of animal sold (e.g., Feeder Steers, Feeder Heifers, Slaughter Cows). |
| Weight Range | The weight bracket for the lot (e.g., 500–600 lbs). |
| Head Count | Number of animals sold in that bracket. |
| Price ($/cwt) | Price per hundredweight for the lot. |
| Average Weight | The average weight of animals in the bracket. |
Using Auction Data
- Compare weight brackets. If your animals are between weight brackets, look at both to understand the price curve.
- Check head count. Higher head counts in a bracket mean the price is based on more transactions and is likely more reliable.
- Look at multiple dates. Reviewing several consecutive auction dates reveals price trends at that barn.
Tips
- Match your group’s weight. Find the weight bracket that most closely matches your group’s average weight to estimate your expected price.
- Note seasonal patterns. Prices often fluctuate with the season. Reviewing data over several weeks can reveal patterns.
