Understanding Market Data Sources
Cattle360’s Market Intelligence feature uses real auction data to provide pricing insights and sell signal recommendations for your herd.
Where the Data Comes From
Market data in Cattle360 is sourced from actual livestock auction results across the United States. The system collects sale results from participating sale barns, including:
- Sale prices — Actual prices paid for animals at auction.
- Weight ranges — The weight categories animals were sold under.
- Animal descriptions — Type, sex, and lot information.
- Sale dates — When each auction occurred.
How Often Data Updates
Market data updates as new auction results become available. Sale barns typically report results after each sale day, so data freshness depends on the sale schedule of each barn.
Regional Relevance
Market prices vary significantly by region. To get the most relevant pricing data:
- Favorite your local sale barns. This ensures the sell signal analysis uses prices from markets you actually sell at.
- Browse multiple barns. Comparing prices across nearby barns helps you find the best market for your animals.
How Data Feeds Into Sell Signals
The market intelligence engine uses auction data along with your group’s details (animal type, sex, estimated weight) to calculate:
- Current market value — What your animals would likely bring at auction today.
- Price benchmarks — How current prices compare to recent history.
- Sell recommendations — Whether market conditions favor selling now or holding. See Understanding Sell Signals for details.
Tips
- Keep estimated weights current. The accuracy of sell signals depends on having realistic weight estimates for your groups.
- Check data regularly. Market conditions change frequently — review market intelligence weekly during selling season.
- Compare multiple barns. Different sale barns may offer significantly different prices for the same class of animal.
