Groups Overview

Groups let you organize your animals into meaningful collections for tracking, reporting, and management. Whether you want a permanent pen group or a dynamic filter that automatically updates, Cattle360 has you covered.

What Are Groups?

A group is a named collection of animals. You can use groups to represent:

  • Pens or pastures — Animals currently in a specific location.
  • Production stages — Calves, yearlings, bred heifers, cull cows, etc.
  • Sale lots — Animals you plan to sell together.
  • Custom categories — Any grouping that makes sense for your operation.

Two Types of Groups

Cattle360 supports two types of groups:

  • Static Groups — You manually add and remove animals. Membership only changes when you make a change.
  • Smart Groups — You define filter criteria and the system automatically includes all matching animals. Membership updates dynamically as animals change.

See Static vs. Smart Groups for a detailed comparison.

Where Groups Appear

  • Groups Dashboard — View all your groups with animal counts and quick access.
  • Main Dashboard — Groups marked “Show on Dashboard” appear as summary cards.
  • Animal Records — Each animal shows which groups it belongs to.
  • Market Intelligence — Groups are used as the basis for sell signal analysis.
  • Financials — Groups can be assigned to transactions for profitability tracking.

Getting Started

  1. Decide on group type. Use static if you want full manual control. Use smart if you want automatic, criteria-based membership.
  2. Create the group. Open the group dialog and configure the details.
  3. Add animals. For static groups, add animals manually. For smart groups, define your filter criteria.
