Viewing the Profitability Report

The Profitability Report lets you see income, expenses, and net profit/loss for a specific group or tag. This is different from the Profit & Loss report, which organizes data by category — the Profitability Report organizes data by entity (group or tag).

Opening the Report

  1. Open the Financial Dashboard.
  2. Click Profitability in the toolbar.

Selecting What to View

At the top of the report, use the entity selector to choose what you want to analyze:

1. Pick an Entity Type

Toggle between Groups and Tags using the selector buttons.

2. Pick a Specific Entity

Use the dropdown to select the specific group or tag you want to view. For groups, a secondary label shows the group type (Static or Smart).

3. Set the Date Range

Click the filter button to choose a date period (YTD, MTD, All, or Custom). Only transactions within the selected date range are included.

Report Summary Cards

Once an entity is selected, summary cards display:

CardDescription
Selected EntityThe group or tag name and type.
IncomeTotal income from transactions assigned to this entity. Shows the number of income transactions.
ExpensesTotal expenses from assigned transactions.
NetIncome minus Expenses. Shows in red if negative.

Unassigned Transactions Alert

If there are transactions in the selected date range that are not assigned to any group or tag, an alert card shows the count. This helps you identify transactions that may need profitability assignments.

Transaction Table

Below the summary, a table lists all transactions assigned to the selected entity:

ColumnDescription
DateTransaction date.
TypeIncome or Expense.
VendorVendor name.
CategoryCategory name (parent > child format if subcategory).
MemoTransaction description.
SourceHow the transaction was assigned (or “Manual assignment”).
AmountDollar amount.

On mobile, transactions are displayed as cards instead of a table.

Navigating from the Report

  • Click Open Ledger to switch to the full transaction ledger.
  • Click Category P&L to switch to the category-based Profit & Loss report.
  • Click Dashboard to return to the financial overview.

Tips

  • Compare groups. Switch between groups to compare profitability across different segments of your operation.
  • Use tags for events. If you tagged all expenses for a specific event or project, select that tag to see the full financial picture.
  • Check for unassigned transactions. If the alert shows unassigned transactions, consider going through them to ensure they're tagged properly for accurate reporting.
