Creating Offspring Manually

If you need to record a calf without going through the calving screen (e.g., the dam doesn’t have a breeding record), you can create the offspring manually.

How to Create Offspring Manually

  1. Navigate to any animal list and click Add Animal.
  2. Fill in the standard animal fields:
    • Primary Identification — Ear tag or other ID.
    • Animal Type — Select Calf.
    • Sex — Select the sex.
  3. In the Calfhood section:
    • Set the Birth Date.
    • Set the Birth Weight.
    • Assign the Dam.
    • Assign the Sire (if known).
    • Set the Conception Type (Natural or AI, if known).
  4. Click Save.

Differences from the Calving Screen

  • Only the dam is prefilled (if you start from the dam’s record). Sire, owner, and conception type must be entered manually.
  • No breeding record is updated. The offspring is created independently and is not linked to a breeding event.

When to Use Manual Creation

  • No breeding record exists. The dam was not tracked through the breeding system.
  • Purchased calves. Calves bought from another operation that need lineage recorded.
  • Historical data entry. Recording past births for animals already on the operation.
