Editing and Deleting a Breeding Record
You can update a breeding record to correct details or add information, or delete it entirely if it was created by mistake.
How to Edit a Breeding Record
- Navigate to the Breedings screen, or open the animal’s record and go to the breeding section.
- Click on the breeding record you want to edit.
- Update the fields as needed:
- Breeding date or end date
- Sire(s)
- Breeding method
- AI details (if applicable)
- Monitoring flags (In Heat, Watch Close)
- Comments
- Click Save.
What Changes When You Edit
- Due date recalculates if you change the breeding date (breeding date + 283 days).
- Sire updates are reflected on any linked offspring records.
- The breeding status on the animal is not affected by edits unless the method or dates fundamentally change.
How to Delete a Breeding Record
- Open the breeding record.
- Click Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
What Happens When You Delete
- The breeding record is permanently removed.
- The animal’s breeding status resets to Open (if this was the only active breeding).
- Any linked pregnancy check data is also removed.
When to Delete vs. Mark No Calf
| Situation | Recommended Action |
|---|---|
| Breeding was entered by mistake | Delete the record |
| Wrong animal was selected | Delete and re-create on the correct animal |
| Breeding happened but no calf resulted | Mark No Calf (preserves history) |
| Pregnancy check was negative | Mark No Calf |
Tips
- Edit rather than delete and re-create. If you just need to correct a date or sire, editing preserves the record’s history.
- Prefer Mark No Calf for failed breedings. Keeping the record helps track breeding history and identify repeat breeders.
