Breeding Overview

The breeding system in Cattle360 tracks reproduction from initial exposure through calving. It supports both natural breeding and artificial insemination (AI), with detailed data capture for AI procedures.

What Breeding Tracks

Each breeding record captures:

  • The dam — The female animal being bred.
  • The sire(s) — One or more sires (bulls, bucks, or rams) involved.
  • Breeding method — Natural Selection or Artificial Insemination.
  • Breeding date — When the breeding occurred.
  • Expected due date — Automatically calculated as breeding date + 283 days.
  • Pregnancy status — Whether the animal is confirmed pregnant, still exposed, or open.
  • Outcome — Whether the breeding produced a calf or not.

Breeding and Animal Status

The breeding status on an animal’s record reflects its current reproductive state:

  • Open — Not currently bred or exposed.
  • Exposed — Has a breeding record but pregnancy is not yet confirmed.
  • Pregnant — Pregnancy has been confirmed via a pregnancy check.

Where to Access Breedings

  • Breedings screen — View and manage all breeding records across your herd.
  • Animal record — Each animal shows its breeding history and current breeding status.
  • Calving screen — Record offspring from active breeding records.

Key Features

  • Multiple sires — If a cow is exposed to multiple bulls in a pasture, you can list all possible sires.
  • Heat detection tracking — For AI breedings, record heat signs, scores, and timing.
  • Synchronization protocols — Track estrus synchronization programs like Ovsynch or CIDR.
  • Pregnancy check results — Record method, result, and days pregnant.
  • Cost tracking — Track semen, technician, and total costs for AI breedings.
  • Watch list flags — Mark animals as “In Heat” or “Watch Close” for monitoring.
