Marking an Animal as Dead

When an animal dies, record it in Cattle360 to update the herd count and maintain accurate records.

How to Mark an Animal as Dead

  1. Open the animal’s record.
  2. Click Actions > Mark as Dead.
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Death Date — The date the animal died.
    • Cause of Death — A description of the cause (e.g., “Pneumonia,” “Bloat,” “Predator,” “Unknown”).
  4. Click Save.

What Happens

  • The animal’s status changes to Dead.
  • The death date and cause are recorded on the animal’s record.
  • The animal no longer appears in active herd counts or smart groups filtered for active animals.

Tips

  • Record the cause of death. Tracking cause of death helps identify patterns (e.g., recurring disease issues in a pasture).
  • Use smart groups to track death loss. Create a smart group with the Died filter to quickly review all death losses for a period.
