Deleting an Animal
If an animal record was created by mistake or is no longer needed, you can permanently delete it. This action cannot be undone.
How to Delete an Animal
- Open the animal’s record.
- Click Actions > Delete.
- Confirm the deletion when prompted.
What Happens
- The animal record is permanently removed.
- The animal is removed from all static groups it belonged to.
- Weight, note, treatment, and rating records associated with the animal are deleted.
When to Delete vs. Change Status
In most cases, changing the animal’s status is preferable to deleting:
| Situation | Recommended Action |
|---|---|
| Animal was sold | Mark as Sold (preserves sale data and history) |
| Animal died | Mark as Dead (preserves death records) |
| Animal is missing | Set status to Missing |
| Duplicate record created by mistake | Delete the duplicate |
| Test record created during setup | Delete the test record |
Important Notes
- This action is permanent. Deleted animals cannot be recovered.
- Offspring links are affected. If the deleted animal is assigned as a sire or dam on other records, those links will be cleared.
- Financial records are not affected. If the animal had a sale ticket linked to a financial transaction, the transaction remains in the ledger. Review your financials if needed.
