Recording Weights

Tracking weight over time helps you monitor growth rates, plan feeding programs, evaluate performance, and generate accurate market intelligence recommendations.

How to Record a Weight

  1. Open the animal’s record.
  2. Navigate to the Weights tab.
  3. Click Add Weight.
  4. Fill in the details:
    • Date Weighed — The date the weight was recorded.
    • Weight — The animal’s weight in pounds.
    • Note (optional) — Any notes about the weighing (e.g., “pre-weaning” or “after transport”).
  5. Click Save.

Weight Calculations

When multiple weight records exist, Cattle360 automatically calculates:

  • Total gain — The difference between the first and most recent weight.
  • Current gain — The gain since the previous recording.
  • Gain per day — Average daily gain based on the dates and weights recorded.

Weight Types

Weight records can be categorized by type to distinguish between different kinds of measurements (e.g., birth weight, weaning weight, sale weight, or general weigh-in).

Tips

  • Weigh consistently. Using the same scale and conditions (e.g., morning before feeding) produces more reliable gain calculations.
  • Record weights before selling. Having a current weight improves the accuracy of market intelligence sell signals.
  • Use notes to add context. Notes like “shrunk weight” or “post-treatment” help explain unusual readings.
