Adding an Animal

You can add an animal from the Dashboard, the Group Dashboard, or from inside any group. This article walks through the complete process.

How to Add an Animal

1. Click Add Animal from the Dashboard, Group Dashboard, or within a group.
2. Complete the required fields:
   • Primary Identification — At least one of: Ear Tag, EID, Freeze Brand, Name, Tattoo, or Other Tag.
   • Animal Type — Select the type (Bull, Cow, or Calf).
   • Sex — Required if the type is Calf. Otherwise set automatically.
   • Status — Defaults to Active.
   • Owner — Defaults to the current user.
   • Acquired — Defaults to Raised.
3. Complete optional sections as desired:
   • Identification — Additional IDs (EID, freeze brand, tattoo, etc.).
   • Descriptive — Color, brand, castration, dehorned status.
   • Status details — Sale or death information if applicable.
   • Calfhood — Birth date, birth weight (defaults to 65 lbs), conception type, sire, dam.
   • Raised/Purchased — Purchase date and price if acquired is set to Purchased.
   • Groups — Assign to one or more static groups.
   • Image — Upload a photo of the animal.
4. Click Save.

Conditional Requirements

• If status is Sold — Sale date, sale price, and sale weight are required.
• If status is Dead — Death date and cause of death are required.
• If acquired is Purchased — Purchase date and purchase price are required.

Tips

• Start with the basics. Only the primary ID, type, and sex are truly essential to create a record. You can always add more details later.
• Use EID for electronic readers. If you use EID tags or readers, recording the EID allows you to scan animals during workings.
